Question 1

What is GradeGlance?

Accepted Answer

GradeGlance is an unofficial parent dashboard that connects to your school's Canvas LMS. It gives you a clear, at-a-glance view of your child's grades, missing assignments, and upcoming due dates — without needing to navigate Canvas yourself.

Question 2

Is there a free trial?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every new parent account starts with a free 30-day trial of our Max plan — unlimited students, 5-minute sync, AI chat, and share links. No credit card required. When the trial ends, your account moves to the free Basic plan unless you choose to upgrade.

Question 3

Is GradeGlance affiliated with Instructure or Canvas?

Accepted Answer

No. GradeGlance is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Instructure, Inc. Canvas is a trademark of Instructure, Inc. We are an independent tool built by parents, for parents.

Question 4

How does GradeGlance connect to Canvas?

Accepted Answer

You provide a read-only Canvas API token generated from your Canvas account settings. GradeGlance uses this token to securely fetch grades, assignments, and course data. Your token is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage.

Question 5

Can GradeGlance modify grades or assignments?

Accepted Answer

No. We use read-only API access. GradeGlance cannot change, submit, or delete any data in Canvas. It can only view the same information you see as an observer in Canvas.

Question 6

What data does GradeGlance collect?

Accepted Answer

Only academic data from Canvas: courses, assignments, grades, and due dates. We do not collect personal information beyond what is needed for your account (email and encrypted Canvas token). We never sell or share your data.

Question 7

Can I cancel anytime?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Cancel your subscription anytime from your account settings. Your access continues until the end of your billing period, and your data is deleted within 30 days of cancellation.

Question 8

Which schools are supported?

Accepted Answer

Any school that uses Canvas LMS by Instructure. This includes thousands of K-12 schools and universities worldwide. If your school uses Canvas, GradeGlance can connect to it.

Question 9

How often does data sync?

Accepted Answer

Depends on your plan: Basic syncs hourly, Standard every 30 minutes, and Max every 5 minutes. You can also trigger a manual sync at any time to get the latest data immediately.

Question 10

What notifications will I get?

Accepted Answer

On Standard and Max, an afternoon check-in (4:00pm by default) lists tonight's work, tomorrow's quizzes and tests, and busy days ahead for every kid, and an evening roundup (7:30pm by default) lists anything late or due by midnight and not turned in yet. You pick the times and whether each arrives by push, email, or both. You also get push alerts for new grades, zeros, and missing work, and can turn on reminders when it's time to start something and a last call before it's due. Quiet hours (10pm to 7am by default) hold the rest until morning. The free Basic plan flags the same missing work and zeros on your dashboard, without notifications.

Question 11

Do I need to install an app to get notifications?

Accepted Answer

No app store download. On Android or a computer, allow notifications when your browser asks. On iPhone, open GradeGlance in Safari and choose Share, then Add to Home Screen first: iPhones only deliver web notifications to apps on the Home Screen. Or skip push and get the check-in and roundup by email.

Question 12

Do students get notifications too?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Students get a daily plan (what's due tonight and about how long it'll take, at a time they pick) and late alerts for free. Student Plus ($1.99/month) adds reminders when it's time to start, a last call before work is due, and alerts for new grades and teacher messages.

Question 13

My kids go to different schools. Does that work?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as long as their schools use the same Canvas site, which is usually your district's. Your Canvas parent account can be paired with every child, and GradeGlance shows them all together, each with their own school. If your kids are in different districts with separate Canvas sites, GradeGlance connects to one of them at a time today.
